Good Life Journal - Mark 3

Scripture:

Mark 3:6 The Pharisees went out and immediately held counsel with the Herodians against him, how to destroy him.

Observation:

Jesus heals a man with a withered hand on the Sabbath. Instead of the religious leaders being amazed at the healing power of Jesus they were angered by it because it didn’t fit their religious rules.

Application:

Religion tends to become about control. People experience God in a certain way and then they form a box and say, “this is the way God works”. I have been guilty of this many times in life. You know your religion has gone too far when you don’t celebrate the healing of a man who was crippled because it didn’t happen within the parameters of your religious practice. Jesus met the needs of people and displayed His glory, many times at the expense of the religious leaders’ comfort. As the leader of a local church I have a tendency of “boxing in” for the sake of order and my own sanity. However I am reminded this morning that Jesus can and will operate outside of my box to meet needs and display His glory. I won’t be ok with that if I forget that ministry is all about Him and His mission in the first place.

Prayer:

Regardless of the parameters I put on you God, I trust that you will break through them many times, daily. I am ok with that. As I trust you more and more I am confident that my parameters will one day disappear and my leadership will be fully submitted to your Spirit’s leadership.
