Good Life Journal - Proverbs 8

Scripture:

Proverbs 8:1 Does not wisdom call? Does not understanding raise her voice?  10-11Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.

Observation:

Wisdom is better than gold and silver. It is more valuable than worldly treasures. It is the foundation of a Godly life and a life of prudence, righteousness and blessings. It is also available to everyone. And many don’t want to listen or learn.

Application:

This Proverb makes me think of parenting. As parents we know more than our children and we try to teach them and instruct them in various life skills. We provide guidance and allow them to do things based on their age and on knowing what is good/right for them. However, as often as we ask our kids to do things (or don’t do things), they often don’t listen. Or they do the opposite of what we ask them. As a parent I often say “Didn’t I tell you? Haven’t we had this discussion before? Why didn’t you listen?”

As an adult, I am no different to my Heavenly Father as my kids are to me. God has to be frustrated. Does not wisdom call? Yet, I don’t listen. Does not understanding raise her voice? Yet, I am too busy to hear. I often don’t listen. And I pursue things that are worldly and not Godly. It is the shiny object that attracts. I think I can just pursue what I want now and give to God as soon as I get it. I can get now, serve later. I am in continual need of being reminded to not pursue worldly treasures. God’s wisdom needs to be a priority in my life and it must be my pursuit.

Prayer:

Help me to realize the blessings You have provided to me and my family. Help me to realize Your perspective for my life. Your wisdom is enough. Your guidance is the only guidance I need. Allow me to get out of the way and use Your wisdom and guidance to provide direction.
